Alma Place is a small group of houses, some Grade II listed, down an ancient cobbled lane leading off the High Street, its entrance under an old coaching arch going almost unnoticed.
This year the residents got together to enter their community as an “IYN” for Marlborough in Bloom. As well as working on our own gardens, the absence of one resident in hospital inspired us to transform her neglected, bramble-covered garden too, as a community project. Our labours have been helped by a £100 grant from MiB to buy sustainable plants and various residents have been planting, painting furniture, watering and generally caring throughout spring and summer.
Alma Place is one of the IYNs chosen for filming by the BBC’s “Britain in Bloom” programme and the first session of filming has already taken place.
Another joint project has been making Bird Bunting to decorate Alma place for judging day and there will also be an amazing display of birds made by children of a Wiltshire school in our archway.
